Yorkshire Veteran Ladies’ Golf Association returns to Richmond for a trophy competition
Richmond Golf Club welcomed the return of the Yorkshire Veteran Ladies’ Golf Association (YVLGA) on Monday 22nd August for the Foursomes competitions – the Wardle Trophy for the best nett medal score and the Sheila Yeadon Trophy for the best gross medal score.
Eighty-one teams entered for both trophies and were rewarded with a magnificently presented course.
Penny Holroyd, this year’s Captain of the YVLGA and also a Director and past Lady Captain at Richmond, hosted the event and said: “Unlike many parts of the country, Richmond has been the grateful recipient of some decent rainfall over the past couple of weeks, meaning grass on the fairways and excellent greens – congratulations to the Greenkeepers.
“Thank you also to the starters who got the competition underway early in the morning and also to the Clubhouse staff who were in position until close of play.”
Richmond Club Champion Karen Jobling and partner Vicky Matthers made good use of local knowledge and, after going out first of the day, retained the clubhouse lead in the gross competition with their excellent 76.
Sally Cottle and Nicola Linfield from Rawdon were worthy winners of the nett competition with their 68, beating the Willow Valley team of Linda Burnley and Janet Tedstone on the back 9.
